Daily devotion – end it all…..

Pastor Keith   -

1 Kings 19: 1 When Ahab got home, he told Jezebel everything Elijah had done, including the way he had killed all the prophets of Baal. 2 So Jezebel sent this message to Elijah: “May the gods strike me and even kill me if by this time tomorrow I have not killed you just as you killed them.”
3 Elijah was afraid and fled for his life. He went to Beersheba, a town in Judah, and he left his servant there. 4 Then he went on alone into the wilderness, traveling all day. He sat down under a solitary broom tree and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough, LORD,” he said. “Take my life, for I am no better than my ancestors who have already died.”

Sometimes we can get so depressed about our lives and the storms we are going through that we wish God would call us home.

Of course, had Elijah really wanted to die, Jezebel would have gladly answered his prayer for him. But Elijah was not the only one to feel overwhelmed this way.

Moses also said the same thing – he wanted to die as well – Numbers 11: 14 I can’t carry all these people by myself! The load is far too heavy! 15 If this is how you intend to treat me, just go ahead and kill me. Do me a favour and spare me this misery!”

But the list does not end there, for Job asked as well – Job 3:20-21, Jeremiah – Jeremiah 8:3 and lastly Jonah – Jonah 4:3.

It’s quite a list is it not and a little surprising to us to see so many felt this way.

Asking for such an end to your life is NOT the answer to despair because it is selfish and does not glorify God.

The real answer is to die to self and trust God to work things out as we saw with our Lord and Saviour during His epic battle with Satan in the wilderness temptation. Mat 4:4 But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.

The future is your FRIEND when Jesus is your LORD.
