Daily devotion – give thanks to the Lord

Pastor Keith   -

Psa 100:4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.

When Helen and I first came to the Lord, as soon as we heard there was a prayer meeting held at Church, we made sure we would be in attendance. We lived in Spearwood at that time and the Church was in Victoria Park, but that made no difference to our desire to be part of this most important time. We just wanted to be involved in everything that God made available to us since our salvation.

There was one elderly Polish lady by the name of “Lotti” who also attended faithfully every service and prayer meeting. Each time Pastor Thom Whitaker would ask, “Who would like to give thanks to the Lord?”, Lotti’s hand would be the first up. She would say “I just want to thank Jesus Christ my Saviour for saving me!” The same words each time filled with deep heartfelt sincerity!

Last Wednesday night at our prayer gathering, a cold and wet evening outside, I was reminded of Lotti’s legacy once again. Our oldest saint, who is also one of the most faithful in being in prayer with us, prayed the same prayer as did Lotti for her own salvation.

May we never grow weary of thanking God for saving our souls. We who deserve judgment have been given the gift of eternal life, forgiven of our sins against God. We have every reason as the Psalmist writes for us always to enter the courts of God with thanksgiving in our hearts and praise on our lips.

If today thus far, you have not thanked God for your salvation, pause this moment in time and thank Him personally.

Each time I thank Him I am taken to the Cross of Calvary in my mind, to see my Saviour hanging on the Cross, in agony and great pain, just for me!

This Sunday I urge you as we gather as Christ’s Church to follow the exhortation of the psalmist.

I love the way this psalm finishes also for it tells us why we should be so thankful –
Psa 100:5 For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.

The Lord is so good to us each day and our salvation is such an amazing gift – let’s thank Him continually!
