Built by God: Embracing Our Foundation in Christ
Some recent winter weather storms have brought with them winds and rain that have tested the integrity of our homes. Similarly, life’s various trials challenge our faith, demanding a firm foundation to withstand them. The early church, which Peter addressed in 1 Peter 2:4-10, endured immense trials. Peter sought to instill confidence in them through the analogy of a building constructed by God.
Peter describes Jesus as the “Living Stone”—a seemingly contradictory term since stones are inanimate. Yet, Jesus embodies both the strength of a stone and the vitality of life. He is the Cornerstone, the essential foundation upon which everything else is built. This cornerstone is not just a part of our faith; it is the very basis of our existence in Christ.
We, as believers, are described as “living stones,” sharing in Jesus’ life and strength. This identity calls us to live out our faith actively, contributing to the spiritual house God is building. This construction isn’t about physical buildings but about nurturing and strengthening one another in faith. We are also a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices such as our bodies, praises, good works, and financial gifts to God.
Scripture serves as the blueprint for this divine construction project, ensuring that everything aligns with God’s perfect plan. Even though the world may reject Jesus, He remains the chosen cornerstone, precious and approved by God. As we face our own storms, let us remember that we are part of a grand design, built upon the unshakable foundation of Christ. In Him, we find strength, stability, and a living hope that endures all trials.
