Sunday 10:00am – Mark 6
“Opportunities”
Sunday 6:00pm – 1 Peter 2:13-17
“The Life Of Submission”
Wednesday 7:00pm – Prayer and Mark’s Gospel
This week at Calvary.
Welcome to CCSH today as we gather to worship and study God’s Holy Word. This morning, we continue our study through the Gospel of Mark. This evening, we continue our study through 1 Peter. This Wednesday evening’s prayer service will involve time for reflective, personal prayer, followed by Communion together. In the busy-ness of life, we can often neglect to still and quiet our hearts and lives before God; to rest, and stop, and pause to seek Him and His will is so important. This Wednesday will afford us opportunity to do that.
Pastor Keith and Helen will be returning next Sunday. Calvary Women’s Tuesday Bible study recommences on the 27th of August here at the chapel. Ladies remember to put this in your diary and invite a friend!
Calvary Kids and Calvary Youth are back on each fortnight here at the chapel. Men, your prayers and your support with security and assistance would be a blessing to all the kids. See Noah Carmody if you can be a part of the Youth Support ministry here at CCSH.
If you would like to receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour today, the pastors and elders will be available to pray with you after the service.
From the Pastors Desk.
Opportunities come and go, but how we respond to them defines our journey. In Mark 6, we see a series of opportunities—some embraced, others missed. Jesus returned to His hometown, offering His neighbours a chance to know Him as the Messiah. Yet, their familiarity led to unbelief, robbing them of blessings. The disciples, on the other hand, seized the opportunity to join Jesus’ mission, stepping out in faith and simplicity, even in the face of resistance. King Herod, however, squandered his opportunities to repent, leading to his downfall. Each day brings choices: to know Jesus, to serve, to repent, to believe. Let us learn from these stories—choosing faith over doubt, mission over comfort, and repentance over regret. Embrace the opportunities God places before you and witness His mighty work in your life.
In this Sunday night’s sermon on 1 Peter 2:11-17, we wrestle with the tough yet crucial call to submission—especially when it comes to government. It’s natural within us to resist authority and seems almost a cultural thing to do in Australia. But as Peter teaches, submission isn’t about agreeing with every leader or law (except where it contravenes God’s law); it’s about honouring God by living as model citizens, even under imperfect governments. This doesn’t mean blind obedience, especially when it conflicts with our faith, but it does challenge us to reflect Christ’s character in how we respond to authority. The message encourages us to trust that God is sovereign over all, even in challenging times, and to pray for those in leadership.
Helen’s Heart –
For God is not unjust so as to forget your work and the love which you have shown toward His name – Hebrews 6:10 Hidden service done so often by many – the housewife, mum, who endlessly cleans, washes, irons, and cooks. The worker who works timelessly but the credit will rarely come their way. God who sees in secret, will not overlook your commitment. Jesus came to be our example – a God who served! So, keep working and God is not unjust.
