Daily devotion – discernment

Pastor Keith   -

We have all heard the saying, “there’s no such thing as a free lunch.” The other one that is in the same category, “it’s too good to be true.” I am as bewildered as some of you I am sure with the stories we watch in the news about people falling for scams!

The writer of proverbs 14: 15 tells us, “The inexperienced one believes anything, but the sensible one watches his steps.” Again great wise words from the Bible for all of us.
The following verse adds a little more wisdom, “A wise person is cautious and turns from evil…”

We need to be aware especially of the enemies devices because Satan paints a very different facade than what he is tempting you with. Jesus said in the Last Days there would come…Matthew 24:24
For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.

How do we know a fake from the real. Who can we go to when we are not sure about something?

Thank the Lord we can go direct to God when we are dealing with something we just aren’t sure about.

Isaiah 9:6
For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

When  we need counsel we can go to the greatest counsellor, Jesus Christ Himself. we can search the Scriptures for His wisdom and we can hold off making a decision until we have cleared it with the Lord.

God orders our steps so let us be cautious, let us be sensible as we ascertain the fake from the real.
