Daily devotion – life and death
Ecc 9:5
For the living know that they will die;
But the dead know nothing,
And they have no more reward,
For the memory of them is forgotten.
Death is a fact of life! You can avoid thinking about or as many people do, not even like to talk about it, but you cannot avoid the appointment.
Heb 9:27 And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment.
The only way to prepare for death is to receive God’s gift of eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ – Jhn 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
….and then obey God’s will until He calls you…..
The reality of death need not rob you of the enjoyments of life however! God wants you to enjoy feasts – Ecc 7 Go, eat your bread with joy, And drink your wine with a merry heart; For God has already accepted your works. 8 Let your garments always be white, And let your head lack no oil.
….and family…. – 9 Live joyfully with the wife whom you love all the days of your vain life which He has given you under the sun, all your days of vanity; for that is your portion in life, and in the labor which you perform under the sun.
Life is unpredictable but it need not be irrational. Let God give you wisdom to use each day for His glory.
The thought of death should energize you, not paralyse you!
