Daily devotion – Our CCSH Sunday School Teachers

Pastor Keith   -

Matthew 19:13-14 reminds us of the tender heart of Jesus toward children and the value He places on them. Jesus rebuked His disciples when they tried to keep the children away, saying, “Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.”

Here at Calvary Chapel Secret Harbour, we see this heart reflected in the overwhelming response to the call for Sunday School teachers. Week after week, our Church family steps forward with compassion and a deep sense of responsibility, ready to serve and invest in the lives of our youngest believers. It’s a beautiful sign of the Church’s care for these small saints—each heart prepared to teach, nurture, and pray for the children as they absorb the Word of God at their level of understanding.

As Helen coordinates the Sunday School roster, we are continually blessed to see that flood of volunteers eager to participate. The commitment and love these teachers show is a testament to the value of serving children and sowing seeds of faith in their lives. I can personally attest, after years of teaching Sunday School myself, that it is some of the most important and rewarding ministry work one can do. While teaching adults later in life might seem more challenging, the spiritual investment in children has a unique impact—an opportunity to shape young lives with the truth of God at a critical and impressionable stage.

One can only imagine the countless testimonies in Heaven of those who will say it was their Sunday School teacher who first planted the seeds of faith. As C.H. Spurgeon so wisely noted, the salvation of a child brings with it the opportunity for a life fully lived in Christ’s service. What greater joy could there be than to be part of God’s work in a child’s heart?

Let us therefore pray earnestly for our Sunday School and Creche volunteers. These faithful servants, with hearts full of love and minds diligently prepared, give their best each week to offer our children a spiritual meal like no other—the precious Word of God.

And to all who serve in this ministry, know that your efforts are not in vain. Your faithfulness, love, and dedication are leaving an eternal legacy in the hearts of the children you teach.
