Daily devotion – when a little one falls ill.

Pastor Keith   -

When one of your children or grandchildren falls ill, or any child for that matter, it challenges our hearts deeply, and our emotions are torn. We long to take on their pain, to bear their discomfort ourselves. But, as much as we might wish to exchange places, we are left feeling helpless when we cannot. This helplessness can lead to frustration, but it is also a reminder of where we should turn in these moments.

Prayer becomes our refuge and the most powerful tool we have in times like these. When little ones suffer, prayer is the critical place where we should run—seeking God’s heart, His comfort, and His healing. Never underestimate the strength found in turning to God on behalf of a child in need. We may feel helpless in our own strength, but in prayer, we stand in the very presence of the One who holds all things in His hands.

Our Heavenly Father’s love for us, His children, is immense and beyond what we can fully grasp. Just as we would do anything for our children, He has already done what we could not. He saw us suffering under the weight of sin and shame, and He sent His only Son, Jesus, to take our place. Isaiah 53:5 declares: “But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed.”

This shows the depth of His love and His desire to free us from the pain and brokenness that comes with living in a fallen world.

Jesus also showed His deep care for children in Matthew 19:14, saying: “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven.” He loves and cherishes them, and so should we. When you know a little one struggling with sickness, remember to bring them before our Heavenly Father in prayer. Place them in His arms, and call upon Him with faith, knowing that He is the great Comforter and Healer. Keep praying, keep interceding, until the storm passes.

And as much as God loves the little ones, remember that you, too, are His child. When you feel like you’re sinking under the weight of your own struggles, do not hesitate to cry out, “Abba, Father.” He will always hear you. He will never leave you stranded or alone. His love for you is constant and unwavering.

In those moments when you feel helpless, lean on Him who is able to do far more than we could ever ask or imagine. His arms are open, ready to hold you and carry you through.
