William Booth, who founded the Salvation Army, wrote these words about entering the 1900’s: “The chief danger of the 20th century will be religion without the Holy Spirit, Christianity without Christ, forgiveness without repentance, salvation without regeneration, politics without God, and heaven without hell.”
This week at Calvary
Today, by God’s grace, we as Christians living in Australia are incredibly blessed. We have the privilege and joy of worshiping Jesus Christ freely, without fear of death or persecution. However, we must not forget that every 5 minutes somewhere in the world, a believer’s life is taken simply because of their faith in Jesus Christ. As we gather here today in freedom, may we seize this opportunity with passion and vigor to give thanks and praise to the one true God—He who sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die in our place at Calvary, setting us free from the penalty of sin and reconciling us to Himself! “This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it!” (Psalm 118:24)
Today, we especially invite married couples and all those seeking prayer for their marriages to come to the front of the sanctuary after the service. The pastors and elders will be available to pray with you, asking for God’s blessing upon your marriage and to lift up any specific needs you may have. Whether you are in a season of joy or challenge, seek the Lord today for His strength and guidance.
Additionally, we encourage you to consider how God may be calling you to serve here at Calvary Chapel Secret Harbour. Our team of dedicated servants continues to grow, serving in many ways to the glory of God. If you would like to be part of this work, we invite you to fill out one of our Connection Cards, available at the information desk in the foyer. There are many ways to get involved, and we would love to help you find the right place to serve. Lastly, a special reminder: next Sunday is the first Sunday in October, and we will celebrate the Lord’s Supper together as a church family. Let us take this week to prepare our hearts for this blessed sacrament, reflecting on the amazing grace and sacrifice of our Savior. May today’s worship, prayer, and fellowship draw us closer to Jesus and equip us to serve Him in all that we do.
From the Pastors Desk
As we turn the corner on the year and find ourselves on the backstraight toward Christmas, which is now just 86 days away, it’s an excellent time to pause and reflect. The AFL has crowned their champions, the Perth Royal Show has wrapped up, and the days are getting longer as the sun rises earlier and sets later. While some may think it’s too early to talk about Christmas, for me, it’s like reaching the summit of Mount Everest—because Christmas is when we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. The moment when the Holy God clothed Himself in the flesh of humanity, born as a child in a humble manger in Bethlehem, the same place where war now rages and the world watches on. This moment in the year is an opportunity to check our spiritual compass. We can look back and ask ourselves: Have we been on course, walking with Christ every step of the way throughout the year? Or have we strayed off track, perhaps finding ourselves bogged down in the “slough of despair” like Christian in John Bunyan’s Pilgrim’s Progress? Jesus calls us to carry our cross and deny ourselves daily, but have we been faithful to that call? Or have we been running things our way, caught up in the distractions of life? Today is the perfect moment to recalibrate and make sure we are following the path God has laid before us. Let’s ensure that our direction for the rest of the year is guided by the Lord, with our hearts fixed on Him. If you are looking forward to Christmas with a heart full of thanksgiving, knowing that the Child born in Bethlehem is with you every day, then you are on track. As we prepare for the joyous celebration of Christ’s birth, let’s do so with a sense of awe and purpose, just as the wise men followed the star that led them to the glory of God. Philippians 2:12 reminds us: “Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.” Just as the wise men were on course and found God’s glory, let us too ensure we are following His lead as we head toward the celebration of Christ’s coming.

Helen’s Heart – Then I was at His side I was filled with delight day after day rejoicing always in His presence rejoicing in His whole world and delighting in mankind Prov 8:30,31. Wisdom: We all want to make wise decisions and sound judgment. True wisdom though brings us inner richness and divine favour, that is according to Proverbs 8 verse 19. Our aim should not be seeking success but discerning and forming the right relationships. The principle of wisdom is to love God for who He is and value human beings as those who reflect the image of our maker. Just as God delighted in the world He made and in us. May you rejoice His beauty this week.
