Daily devotion – continuing in prayer in the battle
Exodus 17: 8 While the people of Israel were still at Rephidim, the warriors of Amalek attacked them. 9 Moses commanded Joshua, “Choose some men to go out and fight the army of Amalek for us. Tomorrow, I will stand at the top of the hill, holding the staff of God in my hand.”
10 So Joshua did what Moses had commanded and fought the army of Amalek. Meanwhile, Moses, Aaron, and Hur climbed to the top of a nearby hill. 11 As long as Moses held up the staff in his hand, the Israelites had the advantage. But whenever he dropped his hand, the Amalekites gained the advantage. 12 Moses’ arms soon became so tired he could no longer hold them up. So Aaron and Hur found a stone for him to sit on. Then they stood on each side of Moses, holding up his hands. So his hands held steady until sunset. 13 As a result, Joshua overwhelmed the army of Amalek in battle.
Today and leading up to today, we fought a spiritual battle against Satan and the powers of darkness. We prayed that God would come against the evil of those who are seeking the elimination of Israel and set to celebrate their wicked attack that occurred on October 7 twelve months ago.
Satan is our greatest enemy and he uses the world, a modern day Babylon, and the flesh to oppose the kingdom of God and Christ’s Church.
The Amalekites were the descendants of Jacob’s brother Esau. This wicked group of people attacked Israel from the rear, the weakest place in the camp striking out at those who were weary, feeble and trailing at the rear of the great march, the exodus.
Satan always knows our weakest point thus we need always to be alert for such assaults. This is why we must ‘watch and pray, lest we enter into temptation.’
As long as Moses interceded in prayer, Joshua was able to overcome the attacks of the enemy. This was symbolised by Aaron and Hur coming alongside Moses and holding his arms up to the Lord, until the battle was one.
This is not telling us that we have to live constantly with our physical arms reaching up or elevated. But it is telling us that our prayers need to not halt whilst we are living in this worldly Babylon as citizens of Heaven.
Therefore I implore you to now set yourself and your family to constantly be on the hill, to always be raising up to God the needs of His Church and the people of Israel.
Our praying allows God to use His Joshua’s to wheel the sword, the Word of God as soldiers of Christ.
Ephesians 6:14 Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. 15 For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. 16 In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. 17 Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18 Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.
We are not done yet!
