Daily devotion – John the Baptist – a life well lived

Pastor Keith   -

Some people enter this world with a specific, God-given mission that defines their entire life, and it’s not about the number of years they live, but about fulfilling that purpose.

John the Baptist was one such man. Born to elderly parents, Zacharias and Elizabeth, John was set apart from birth. Even as an infant, he leapt in his mother’s womb when Mary, pregnant with Jesus, visited Elizabeth.

John was called to greatness in God’s eyes, filled with the Holy Spirit from the womb. His mission was clear and direct: to go before Jesus and prepare the way in the spirit and power of Elijah. His life was dedicated to turning hearts, calling people to repentance, and readying them for the Lord’s arrival. Though his time on earth was short, his impact was profound. Jesus Himself called John the greatest prophet.

John’s life ended when his mission was complete. Some might say his life was cut short, yet Scripture shows us that his purpose was fulfilled, and he was called home at the right time. It wasn’t the length of his years that mattered, but how he lived them for God’s glory.

This week, may we each seek God’s guidance to understand our mission. Like John, let’s be faithful to our calling, however long or short our lives may be. May we live with purpose, fulfilling what God created us for. It’s not about how many years we have, but how we live in the time we’re given.
