Daily devotion – Who is watching?
In Mark 14:40-41, we witness the vulnerability and humanity of Jesus’ disciples as they fail to stay awake in His greatest hour of need. After returning to them three times, Jesus simply says, “It is enough.” This moment captures both the disciples’ weakness and Jesus’ patience.
As a parent or grandparent, you likely relate to the joy of watching over your children and grandchildren, even in their most unremarkable moments—whether they’re playing, participating in activities, or simply sleeping. There’s a unique love in these moments, a love that finds delight in just being near, watching them live life.
It’s touching to imagine Jesus in this same way, watching over His disciples, understanding their weaknesses, and knowing the difficult path ahead for them. Like a shepherd with his flock, Jesus has that watchful, loving gaze over each of us. He sees us not only in our moments of triumph but also in our moments of fatigue, failure, and vulnerability. And, just as a parent delights in watching over their children, our Heavenly Father finds joy in watching over us.
May we find peace in knowing that He lovingly keeps watch over our every step, even in our moments of weakness.
