Daily devotion – Our loving Father
What do you do when you have done your best for the Lord, but it just did not work out how you thought it would? That is, the end result was, no result!
The Bible is filled with accounts of such times. Peter claiming, he would never deny the Lord. Moses striking the rock for water when he was commanded to just speak to it.
The short answer is that we are clay vessels that often fall short of what we try to do.
But the important thing is to not dwell on our failures, of which there will be many and sadly more. The important thing to remember is in such times when we find ourselves despondent is that God is a loving Father.
Psa 103:14 For He knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust.
God knows us better than we know ourselves – before Peter was about to make his most harrowing denial to the Lord he loved, do you remember what Jesus said to him?
Luk 22:31 And the Lord said, “Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat.
Luk 22:32 “But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren.”
God knew!
Do you remember what the father did with his prodigal son? He welcomed him back and celebrated even though he knew all that his son had done!
Most congregations would not be aware of how many of their pastors end their weekend – most with the thought of ‘could have done better’.
Is that not what many Christian dads and mums, husbands and wives go through as well.
If that is you this week, lift your eyes off of yourself and place them back on your heavenly Father. This is where our eyes are to be looking continually. The moment we drop our heads we end like king David, and we need to have a good talk to ourselves to remind us of what is right and true!
Psa 42:5
Why are you cast down, O my soul?
And why are you disquieted within me?
Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him
For the help of His countenance.
God never fails and He fixes all our messes!
