Daily devotion – the gift that is Christmas
1 Timothy 6:17
“Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment.”
As we reflect on this verse, we are reminded that true wealth is not measured by the possessions we have, but by the eternal blessings God has entrusted to us. Many of us are far more blessed than we realize:
If you have food in your fridge, a roof over your head, and a place to sleep, you are richer than 75% of the world’s population.
If you can travel freely, you are among the top 18% of the wealthiest individuals globally.
If you are alive and well today, you are more fortunate than the millions who won’t make it through this week.
If you can read this devotion, you are more blessed than 3 billion people who lack access to education.
As Christmas approaches, let us shift our focus from material wealth to the abundant grace and mercy we have received through the birth of Jesus Christ.
Prayerfully consider taking this season as an opportunity to demonstrate God’s love in action. Here’s a challenge:
Prepare gift baskets or small tokens of kindness and deliver them to those who least expect it—perhaps a neighbor, someone in need, or even a stranger.
Give without expecting anything in return.
Pray for God’s guidance in showing you who might need encouragement, love, or simply the joy of knowing they are cared for.
This Christmas, let’s reflect the heart of Christ by sharing the blessings we have received. With love and humility, bring the light of God’s grace to those who need it most. Remember, the greatest gift is not what’s in the basket—it’s the love of God that motivates us to give.
