Daily devotion – The Gospel of Mark

Pastor Keith   -

Isaiah 55: 10 “For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, And do not return there, But water the earth, And make it bring forth and bud, That it may give seed to the sower And bread to the eater, 11 So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth;
It hall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

As we draw near to the completion of the Gospel of Mark in the next few weeks, our time in this blessed book has taught me so much.

Firstly, knowing that this is actually the Apostle Peter’s account of our Saviour Jesus Christ, has increased my longing to meet Peter when we are all together in glory. His heart was that of one given completely over to Christ and he humbly, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, opens his life for us to see all of his failings and stumbling’s, with nothing hidden.

Peter’s death in Rome according to Fox’s book of martyrs, was that of being crucified upside down at his own request because he said he was unworthy to be crucified after the same form and manner as His Lord. It took three days for Peter to eventually die and during those days he shared the Gospel of Christ to any who came near.

Mark’s Gospel, though only 16 chapters, is filled with great detail especially covering the arrest, the brutal treatment of Christ before His final death on Calvary. We often take for granted the Gospels and the wonder of the Bible that tells us the greatest story ever told – the life of Jesus Christ the Son of God.

As we read God’s Word and the Holy Spirit unveils its message to us, we are each given the privilege of knowing the heart of God. Over the months we have been in the Gospel of Mark, my life has changed because of it!

Heb 4:12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Let us remember that it is through the reading and teaching of God’s Word that the Lord Himself speaks to us and reveals to us the wonder of who He is!

When we complete Mark we will begin another marvellous journey into yet another book of the Bible and God will reveal to us even more of the wonder of the gift of salvation that He has freely given to us.

Hebrews 1: 1 God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, 2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds
