Daily devotion – give thanks IN everything not FOR everything!
In Everything Give Thanks – 1 Thessalonians 5:16–22
“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:16–18
One of the most common questions believers ask is, “What is God’s will for my life?” While we may sometimes wrestle with this question, Scripture gives us clear answers in passages like 1 Thessalonians 5:16–22.
In these verses, Paul outlines simple yet profound principles:
Rejoice always.
Pray without ceasing.
Give thanks in everything.
Notice Paul says to give thanks “in everything” and not “for everything.” There’s a significant difference.
Thankfulness in Every Season
We are not instructed to thank God for suffering, hardship, or loss. Instead, we are to thank Him in the midst of it. Why? Because:
God is with us in every trial.
His love and faithfulness remain constant.
He promises to work all things together for good (Romans 8:28).
Gratitude Reflects Trust
When we give thanks during difficult times, we demonstrate our trust in God’s character and promises. It’s not about pretending everything is fine but about anchoring ourselves in the truth that:
God is gracious and kind.
He is merciful and loving.
He never leaves us nor forsakes us (Hebrews 13:5).
A Personal Reflection
As we move past Christmas and into a new season, it’s a wonderful time to reflect on God’s grace and provision. Even in challenging moments, we can recognize His blessings:
The gift of salvation.
The peace that surpasses understanding.
The hope of eternal life.
These are blessings that remain steadfast, no matter our circumstances.
A Daily Habit of Gratitude
Take time each day to:
Rejoice in God’s goodness.
Pray continually, sharing your heart with Him.
Thank Him sincerely, no matter the season.
Gratitude is not about ignoring struggles; it’s about remembering God’s faithfulness.
Let’s make thankfulness not just an occasional response but a daily habit—one that reflects our trust in our Savior and brings glory to His name.
“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.” – Psalm 107:1
Merry Christmas and may gratitude overflow in your heart today!
