Daily devotion – tomorrow..

Pastor Keith   -

Isn’t it funny how there are so many things that enter your email inbox that have to be completed by the 31st December? You have been putting these things off through the year because you know you have ‘time’! But now with just days until the year is over, all of a sudden, a plethora of ‘have to’s and must do’s’ now annoyingly remind you each day – must be done!

Our lives are often lived just like this but in a greater scale. We have all these things that we will do, that we must do, but not just now, we don’t have the time. So we put them off!

Things like saying sorry to someone, or ringing your loved one, you dad, mum or sibling and telling them you love them. Buying that gift that you have promised you would get. Taking the kids to something special that you said, ‘for sure we will do this or go there’, yet still left undone.

Visiting an elderly loved one but you just don’t get there in time and now they are gone!

Procrastination has a brother called laziness and the book of proverbs treats neither of them kindly.

Pro 13:4
The soul of a lazy man desires, and has nothing;
But the soul of the diligent shall be made rich.

Pro 26:15
The lazy man buries his hand in the bowl;
It wearies him to bring it back to his mouth.

Pro 27:1
Do not boast about tomorrow,
For you do not know what a day may bring forth.

James warns us that our tomorrow’s are in the Lord’s hands and is our every heartbeat – James 4: 13 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit”; 14 whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. 15 Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.” 16 But now you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.
17 Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.

Let us not put off today our being in God’s Word, in prayer, serving Him for a later date. It’s a dangerous and foolish way to live that will only ever leave you with regrets!

Heb 3:13 but exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.
