Daily devotional – when we sin
Genesis 4:4 Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat. And the LORD respected Abel and his offering, 5 but He did not respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell.
6 So the LORD said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? 7 If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.”
God’s advice to Cain was that if he would please God by doing what is right, all would be well. But if not sin would be crouching like a wild animal ready to pounce, at his door, ready to over come him.
Sin desires to have Cain, but Cain could have mastery over it.
We find ourselves living in a sinful fallen world and within this world the enemy Satan roams like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour!
1Pe 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
When we get ‘jumped’ by Satan and we stumble what are we to do? Do we just throw in the towel? Do we give up saying what is the use?
No, as believers, we will stumble, we will miss the mark, but now we can call on the Lord to help us.
Some Christians get ‘jumped’ by the enemy stumble and sin – but let us not then allow the enemy to devour all hope in us!
We can now go to our advocate, we can call on our Lord, we can seek God’s mercy if we have a penitent heart and He will forgive us our sin! We can start afresh, wiser and certainly filled with greater humility.
1Jo 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Today have you messed up, have you blown it and now are broken before God. Call on the name above all names, fall on your knees before Him and God who is rich in mercy and grace, will forgive you and cleanse you from all unrighteousness – this is the wonder and power of the Cross of Calvary and Christ’s intercession for us now!
Go to Him, pray, repent and be forgiven!
