Daily devotion – When darks clouds settle upon you.

Pastor Keith   -

2Co 1:8
¶For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life:

2Co 1:9
But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead:

2Co 1:10
Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us.

There are moments in our lives when we go under. We are out of ‘gas’ and our wick is just burning. These moments can just drop on us like a huge grand piano from above and we resign to the fact that we can’t get out of its way as it is careering down on us.

The Apostle Paul had moments even in his great faith led life. Hear his words…pressed out of measure…no strength….despairing even of his life!

But thanks be unto God Paul did not remain under the shadow of that ‘falling grand piano’!

He realises like all of us should that we simply cannot trust in our own capacity or strength to live godly and survive in a sin fallen world. He looks to God, Paul realises once again as the Holy Spirit reminds him that our Lord is always there to raise us up out of the dungeon of despair.

Christ has delivered us from the horror of being separated from God for all eternity by dying in our place on Calvary’s Cross. He set us free from the judgment we deserved and instead granted us His grace.

Jesus did deliver is then and He will deliver you again today!

He is our loving Shepherd and He will not leave us in those moments in our lives when our frailty all of a sudden takes centre stage and we freeze!

Today, don’t trust in yourself but in the God who raised you from death to life!
