Daily devotion – 2025 and the Word of God!
Focus of Calvary Chapel Secret Harbour for 2025 and Beyond
2 Timothy 4:2 “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.”
Acts 2:42 “And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.”
These two wonderful Scriptures delineate succinctly what the emphasis of the Church of Jesus Christ should always be!
The focus of Calvary Chapel Secret Harbour (CCSH) for 2025 and beyond is the expository preaching and teaching of the Word of God. This is our path and direction. We will continue to make small adjustments as needed for us as the body of Christ, constantly striving to keep the teaching of God’s Word as our central mission, as stated in Scripture.
Evening Service Adjustments
We have slightly restructured our evening service to align it more closely with our morning service. Changes include:
Extended Worship and Teaching: The worship period and teaching time will be lengthened.
Creche Area Availability: Children unable to sit in church and remain undistracting to others will have access to the creche area.
Encouraging Family Worship: Older children are expected to sit with their parents in the main sanctuary, learning under the teaching of God’s Word.
Communion Service Rotation
Our monthly communion service will now alternate between morning and evening services. For example, the February communion service will be held during the evening service.
As Paul reminds us:
1 Corinthians 11:26 “For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come.”
Commitment to God’s Word
The primary focus of 2025 will be on knowing God’s Word and being under its teaching. Paul’s last instructions to Timothy before his execution emphasized not only the importance of preaching the Word but also the need to be prepared to do so. We aim to embrace this directive wholeheartedly at CCSH.
Paul’s desire for Timothy’s preaching was that it achieve three main objectives:
Correction:
Pastoral preaching must help people stay on their desired path by addressing errant tendencies.
Similar to a shepherd herding sheep back to safety, this correction is guided by the Holy Spirit’s work.
Rebuke:
Jesus taught His disciples to rebuke one another while forgiving those who repent.
Timothy’s preaching ministry was to include stern reproof when necessary, encouraging repentance and restoration.
Encouragement:
Preaching should be nurturing, offering heartfelt and affirmational appeals.
This ensures listeners know their pastor cares deeply and recognizes the eternal stakes involved.
A Firm Foundation
Our foundation as Christ’s Church is set in God’s Word. We are not:
An entertainment center.
A childcare facility or a place for games.
Rather, we are the house of God. Here, where people of all ages can grow into mature men and women of God through the faithful teaching of His Word.
This commitment to the expository teaching of Scripture remains the cornerstone of our mission at CCSH, as we seek to glorify Christ in all we do.
