Daily devotion – God’s faithfulness!
Joshua 1: 1 After the death of Moses the servant of the LORD, it came to pass that the LORD spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, saying: 2 “Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them—the children of Israel. 3 Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses. 4 From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the River Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your territory.
Do you have any half-finished jobs around your house, in your garage or your backyard? The thought was initially there but things came up and the task sits just as you left it, incomplete.
The book of Joshua reminds all of us that what God starts, He finishes.
Hebrews 12:2 that God is the author and finisher of your faith. The book of Joshua too is a great example of God keeping His promise to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob – a promise of which you, as a believer, are a recipient!
Back in the book of Genesis God promised the land, the Promised Land, would be given to all of Abraham’s descendants. Joshua’s journey across the Jordan is the continuation of that very promise.
There are times when we fail dismally our Lord and we fall into the trap of the enemy when the devil whispers to us that, “We will not make it! To give up trying, and to stop kidding ourselves.”
This is why the reading of God’s Word each day is so vital for your spiritual health and indeed your physical and mental well-being. For as I read the Bible at such times I am reminded once again of God’s faithfulness to me. That He will not fail nor stop His work in my life. There are no Christians in this world whose lives and future that God has left or will leave undone.
He continues each day watch to over us, intercede for us, encourage us along the path so that we may finish the race He has set for us.
The next time you see something around the house or yard that is a half-completed job be reminded that’s not how God works or is working in your life.
God will get us to glory, to His throne and thus we will sing our praises to Him with the full knowledge that it is He who got us there just as He promised He would!
Deu 7:9 Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;
