Pastor Keith   -

“By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise: For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.”
— Hebrews 11:8-10

Driving by a house near ours, I noticed the removalists hard at work, packing up a family’s belongings as they prepared to move. It brought to mind two things:

First, I was reminded how much I dislike the process of moving—the packing, the lifting, the sorting!

But second, it struck me how this situation mirrors our lives as believers in Christ. This world is not our true home! Like Abraham, we are sojourners, strangers in a foreign land, awaiting the day we will reach our eternal home.

Moving Day
When the time comes for us to make our final “move” to be with the Lord, there will be no need for removal trucks, packing boxes, or stress. The only thing we will take with us is our reborn hearts, transformed by God’s grace. Our physical bodies, corrupted by sin, will be left behind and replaced with incorruptible, glorified bodies:

“Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption. Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed—in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet.”
— 1 Corinthians 15:50-52

A Sudden Transformation
Pause and imagine that moment: the trumpet sounds, and in an instant, we are changed. Effortlessly, without packing or preparation, we will leave this world behind. No possessions will accompany us, for nothing here can compare to the eternal treasures awaiting us in God’s presence.

Our Blessed Hope
This is the hope that stirs joy in our hearts. Each passing day brings us closer to the moment we will finally go “home.”

“For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.” — Philippians 3:20

Let this truth fill you with peace and excitement today. Our time here is temporary, but our future with the Lord is eternal. The journey home will be like no move we’ve ever experienced—no effort on our part, only the grace and power of God at work.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the hope of heaven. Help us to live as sojourners in this world, always looking forward to the day when we will be with You. Strengthen us to walk by faith, just as Abraham did, and to trust in Your promises. May our hearts grow more excited each day for the moment when we will finally be home with You. Amen.
