Daily devotion – How effective are you in the kingdom of God?
Each Wednesday our Church gathers for prayer in the evening at the chapel. Prayer meetings in all western world Churches are the least attended out of all the services available. Yet the corporate Church prayer meeting is the most influential moment the entire Church has in serving the kingdom of God.
Because prayer is effective!
Jesus prayed more than any other man we know and the Bible constantly reveals to us His life was that of perpetual significant prayer.
Prayer was the ‘one’ thing that the disciples collectively asked Jesus to teach them how to do it!
James tells us in chapter 5:16 that “The effective – (there’s that word again) – fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much!”
At a meeting of the large Souther Baptist Churches in the United States a preacher asked the entire convention gathering this question – “What activities and programs would cease to continue in your Church of those which the Holy Spirit did not implement or drive by His power?” Activity and programs do not equate to effectiveness.
Prayer always does!
The great Scottish preacher John Knox prayed, and the results caused Queen Mary to say that she feared the prayers of John Knox more than she feared all the armies of Scotland.
John Wesley prayed, and revival came to England, sparing that nation the horrors of the French Revolution.
Jonathan Edwards prayed, and revival spread throughout the American colonies. History has been changed time after time because of prayer.
History can be changed once again if people went to their knees in believing prayer!
2Ch 7:14
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
Even when times are bleak as we see our world in a mess like never before, and this same world scorns God.
But God still works through the prayers of His people. God is calling you to be someone He can use to work through!
Then and only then, will we ever be effective in the kingdom of God. Less activities, less programs, more prayer – this is the Biblical pattern!
Jhn 14:13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
