Daily devotion – ministering costs…

Pastor Keith   -

Mar 6:31 And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.

Ministry can be very tiring! Dads working in their jobs each day and week. Mums, with endless cooking cleaning and washing.

For Jesus and His disciples the load of ministering to the many needs of the people in need of the Lord and His grace was enormous. Jesus could see His disciples toiling and wearing out spiritually and physically. Helen and I had such a day today.

From the mission field of the AFL to the visitation of those needing prayer and comfort whilst ill.

Parenting, witnessing, and being with those who are sick are such wonderful blessings that God has made available for us. But we are earthen vessels and weariness can come from serving –

Gal 6:9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

2Th 3:13 But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing.

But as we minister we spend something of ourselves as the Lord gives us such opportunities. There can be great sadness, heartache, disappointment and at times we may sense we have fallen short in what God has asked us to do.

Jesus said apart from Him we can do nothing! We can’t be godly parents without Him, we can’t help a stranger without Him, and we achieve nothing unless the Lord is guiding and filling us with His Holy Spirit as we minister.

Maybe today you find yourself as a father, a mother, or a brother or sister in Christ, or simply a comforter to someone in need, and you are ‘weary’.

This is why it is so important for you at such times especially, to get away alone, and just sit with the Lord. Shed some tears of weariness, lift up your eyes to Heaven and ask God to bathe you yet again with His holy presence. And God will comfort YOU!

Yes we are frail, yes we are often weak, but God somehow has chosen us to be His way of ministering to others – this is truly an expression of His great love for you. To allow you to be His instrument!

He will strengthen you yet again, He will refresh you deep within, and He will pour His love out on you, for you are His precious child, chosen by Him and forever loved by Him.

When you come to God worn out, weary, broken, you can be sure, you will never leave  Him in that condition!
