Daily devotion – speechless praise

Pastor Keith   -

2 Samuel 7: “Who am I, O Sovereign LORD, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far? 19 And now, Sovereign LORD, in addition to everything else, you speak of giving your servant a lasting dynasty! Do you deal with everyone this way, O Sovereign LORD?
20 “What more can I say to you?

King David the writer of so many Psalms, a man who was never short of a word of praise and adoration for God, at one time in his life was speechless!

David wanted to build the Lord a Temple, but God said that David could not do this because he was a man of war – but then God told David, “But I will build you a house!”

When David was told this, we find him later in the Temple before God unable to utter a word such was he so overcome by God’s amazing promise to do this for him.

There are times in our lives when words are unable to express our thanksgiving to God for all that He has done for us. We find that our words are insufficient for such praise to our God.

I find myself often in this position and at those times simply must sit in awe of Him and say nothing. I know I am in His presence, but I am restricted by my current vocabulary and emotions to truly express my feelings toward my Saviour.

When you find yourself this week in such a moment don’t look for words that are unable to communicate your heart – let the Lord see your heart open and in humble awe of His presence.

For this reason, I am so looking to heaven and my new heavenly body and extended vocabulary, for then I will be able to praise Him with no earthly restrictions!

To God be all the glory!
