Courage in the Face of Life’s Jerichos
There are moments in life when fear attempts to grip our hearts—when we face a difficult decision or receive hard news, such as a serious illness. These moments test us deeply, and not everyone is able to step out in faith. Yet as believers, we are called to trust in God’s promises, even when the way forward seems impossible.

Last Sunday, we reflected on Joshua’s situation. He stood with the Jordan River behind him and the mighty, walled city of Jericho before him. Joshua was chosen by God, called to lead His people, and promised victory. God assured him of His presence, saying:

“No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you. Be strong and of good courage.” (Joshua 1:5-6)

Maybe this week—or sometime this year—you will face your own “Jericho.” In such moments, remember God’s promises. He has spoken to you through His Word, reminding you to be strong, courageous, and rooted in His truth.

“Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:7)

When we hear these reminders, we might think, “But I’ve heard this before!” Yes, and that is the point. Just as a loving parent repeatedly reassures their child, God continually reminds us of His love, care, and protection. The Apostle Peter wrote:

“For this reason I will not be negligent to remind you always of these things, though you know and are established in the present truth.” (2 Peter 1:12)

When we face challenges—our own Jerichos or unexpected storms—these reminders anchor us. We are not alone. God goes before us, fights for us, and carries us through the battle. He is in our boat, calming the storm and leading us to victory.

Jesus said:
“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand.” (John 10:27-29)

Today, take courage in the Lord. His mighty hands, which span the universe, hold you securely. No man, no trial, no Jericho can stand before Him. Look up at the walls before you, and know this: they will fall, because God will see to it!

Be strong and courageous, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
