Daily devotional – good steady godly growth!
Be a Godly Plodder – John 6:61-66
“Does this offend you? Then what will you think if you see the Son of Man ascend to heaven again? The Spirit alone gives eternal life. Human effort accomplishes nothing. And the very words I have spoken to you are spirit and life.” – John 6:61-63
Every New Year, resolutions are made—plans to exercise more, eat healthier, or break bad habits. But so often, these resolutions are abandoned within weeks. Grand gestures and ambitious goals often fizzle out, leaving discouragement behind.
But what if, in 2025, we adopted a different approach? What if we became godly plodders—faithfully walking with God one small step at a time, day by day?
Lessons from Noah and the Snail
When Noah built the ark, it wasn’t done in a burst of energy or a weekend project. It took 120 years of steady, faithful work. Day after day, plank by plank, Noah built according to God’s instruction.
And when the animals came to the ark, even the snails arrived in time—slowly but steadily making their way under God’s guidance.
Steady Steps of Faithfulness
The same principle applies to our spiritual lives. Grand spiritual gestures might seem impressive, but true spiritual growth comes from consistent, daily habits:
A godly marriage is built through daily grace, forgiveness, and love.
Raising godly children happens with daily discipline, prayer, and example.
Spiritual growth isn’t about bursts of spiritual highs but about steady faithfulness.
Practical Goals for 2025
Instead of setting lofty, unrealistic spiritual goals, aim for daily faithfulness:
Read God’s Word daily – even if it’s just a few verses.
Pray daily – be persistent and honest in your prayers.
Be faithful in fellowship – make Sunday worship a priority.
Give cheerfully and regularly – honor God with your finances.
Ask God to lead you each morning – begin your day with surrender.
Thank God each night – acknowledge His faithfulness before you sleep.
Be a Plodder, Not a Sprinter
The crowd in John 6 turned away from Jesus because His words challenged them. They wanted quick rewards, not long-term faithfulness. But Jesus calls us to steady devotion—to follow Him even when it’s hard, even when progress seems slow.
A Prayer for 2025
Lord, help me to be faithful in the small things this year. Teach me to walk with You daily, step by step, and to trust You with each moment. May my life reflect a steady, growing love for You. Amen.
In 2025, be a godly plodder. One step at a time, one day at a time—faithfully following your Savior.
“The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way.” – Psalm 37:23
