Daily devotional – meditate
A Habit of Blessing
“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”
— Joshua 1:8
Have you ever found yourself practicing or rehearsing something important? Maybe you were preparing for a job interview, muttering the reasons you should be hired. Or perhaps you were practicing how to address someone with the correct title before meeting them.
Joshua, as he stepped into his new leadership role, was commanded to make God’s Word a central part of his life. This involved not only reading it but also memorizing and meditating on it, so it became part of his inner being.
The Hebrew word for meditate literally means to mutter. The idea is to quietly repeat something to yourself, allowing it to sink deeply into your heart and mind. This practice is echoed in the Psalms:
“But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in His law he meditates day and night.” — Psalm 1:2
“Oh, how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day.” — Psalm 119:97
What if, throughout your day, you found yourself muttering God’s Word? Imagine the strength, wisdom, and peace it would bring as Scripture shaped your thoughts and guided your decisions.
A Practice for This Week
Take a verse from Scripture this week, read it, memorize it, and make it your meditation. Speak it softly to yourself as you go about your day. Let it become a habit.
Whether you’re facing challenges, making decisions, or simply enjoying quiet moments, allow God’s Word to fill your heart and mind. As Joshua learned, this practice leads to prosperity and success—not just in material terms, but in living a life fully aligned with God’s will.
Prayer:
I pray that this week, your lips will quietly move with the precious Word of God, guiding and blessing you in all situations. May you find delight in His Word and experience its power in every area of your life!
