Daily devotion – children in ministry
Encouraging Our Children in the Lord’s Service
1 Samuel 1:22 – But Hannah went not up; for she said unto her husband, I will not go up until the child be weaned, and then I will bring him, that he may appear before the LORD, and there abide for ever.
1 Samuel 1:24 – And when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bullocks, and one ephah of flour, and a bottle of wine, and brought him unto the house of the LORD in Shiloh: and the child was young.
I am continually blessed to see the young ones here at Calvary Chapel Secret Harbour serving the Lord in so many ways. Though young, some are ministering as helpers in junior church and crèche. Others assist in the media team with music lyrics and lighting. Before most have arrived, some are setting up the children’s rooms and ensuring that Bibles are placed clearly in the sanctuary.
It is always a joy when small ones come into my office, eager to ask if there are any jobs they can do!
Far too often, parents hold back or fail to encourage their children in serving the Lord. But as Christian parents, our greatest joy should be to see our children ministering unto Him—even while they are still young.
Hannah’s example in dedicating Samuel to the Lord is a powerful reminder that children do not have to wait until they are grown up to serve. Even in their early years, they can be active in the work of God.
A Challenge for This Week
Talk with your children, pray with them, and encourage them in God’s calling on their lives. Look for ways they can serve now, no matter how small their role may seem. There is no greater joy than seeing them grow in love and service for the Lord!
You may be raising another Samuel!
