The Power to Be Witnesses
Acts 1:8 – “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”
Jesus’ command to His disciples in Acts 1:8 was clear—the Gospel was to go forth from Jerusalem, spreading throughout Judea, Samaria, and ultimately to the ends of the earth. The Church has been fulfilling this mission for centuries, yet the need for the Gospel remains urgent, even in the land where it all began.
This past Sunday, our church was blessed to welcome two visitors from Israel—both Messianic Jews who follow Jesus as their Messiah. One of them, who lives in Tiberias by the Sea of Galilee, serves alongside his father at a Messianic congregation called Peniel Fellowship. This is a powerful testimony that, even in Israel, God is calling His people to faith in Jesus Christ.
What made this visit even more significant was the invitation extended to preach the Gospel at Peniel Fellowship whenever we are next in Israel. This reminds us that the Gospel continues to bear fruit in the very land where Jesus walked. While Australia and many other nations have received the message of salvation, the work in Israel is far from over. The need for prayer and support for Messianic believers remains critical.
The apostle Peter reassures us:
“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9)
God is still calling His own from Israel, and as believers, we have the privilege of participating in this great work through intercessory prayer. Let us commit to praying for Peniel Fellowship and other Messianic congregations in Israel, that the Gospel would continue to transform lives in the land where it all began.
There is something truly profound about a son or daughter of Abraham recognizing Jesus as their Messiah. May we be faithful in prayer and ready to support this vital work however the Lord leads.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the work You are doing in Israel, calling people to faith in Jesus as their Messiah. We lift up Peniel Fellowship and other Messianic believers, asking that You strengthen and equip them to be bold witnesses. Use us, Lord, to support Your work in prayer and action, that many more in the Holy Land would come to know the saving grace of Christ. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
