Daily devotional – Be still!

Be Still and Know
“Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.” – Psalm 4:4

“Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.” – Psalm 46:10

These verses carry a profound message for those of us who feel weary, anxious, or overwhelmed by the pressures of life in a fallen world.

God, in His wisdom, instituted the Sabbath rest for Israel—not only for the people but even for their animals and land. It was a time of recovery, refreshing, and restoration, a time to cease from busyness and simply trust in the Lord.

This week, our visitor from Israel shared how struck he was by the quietness of our country. In Israel, the constant roar of jets and the ever-present reality of war fill the air. Yet here, the silence speaks of peace—a peace we can also experience in Christ, no matter where we are.

Perhaps today, God is calling you to step away from the rush, to pause, and to listen for His presence in the stillness. You may think you’re too busy—but now is the time to surrender your schedule to Him, to allow God to order your day rather than being ruled by endless demands.

We always make time for the seemingly urgent things of life—why not make time for the most important One? Sit at His feet today, be still, and know that He is God.
