Daily devotion – Fitting God into ‘our’ schedule

A Life That Shows We Belong to Him
Romans 12:1–2
“And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all He has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind He will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship Him. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think…”

I watch with great interest the lives of professional athletes who sincerely walk with the Lord and maintain a true relationship with Jesus Christ. Some may carry His name publicly, but their lifestyle doesn’t show much evidence of true devotion or a heart surrendered to Him.

We live in a world overflowing with options. Not long ago, most people had one car, one job, one shovel—and anything beyond that was considered a luxury. Today, our schedules and choices are endless. Yet the Apostle Paul calls us—pleads with us—to present our lives as a living sacrifice to our Lord.

The Christian life is not about fitting God into the leftover spaces of our day. It’s about shaping our entire lives around Him.

This Easter season, many professional athletes will be participating in high-profile games around the world. But the true follower of Christ among them—though in demanding training regimes, with travel and public engagements—still makes time for God’s Word, still bends the knee in prayer, still places Christ first.

Meanwhile, the casual or part-time believer may go along with the team culture, blending in and saying, “I just don’t have time.”

And so it is for many of us in our jobs and daily responsibilities. The genuine Christian, even when working over Easter, will find time to pray on the way to work, open their Bible on breaks, and watch or listen to God’s Word at day’s end. Why? Because their relationship with Christ is not optional—it’s foundational.

I admire many U.S. professional athletes who boldly declare their faith in Jesus at every opportunity. Whether it’s during press conferences or pre-game gatherings, they are not ashamed of the gospel. They pray together publicly and proclaim Jesus as their Lord with humility and boldness.

This Passion Week, what sacrifices are you making for your Lord?
What part of your life is your “reasonable service” to Him?

Let’s not follow the path of the world, saying “I’m too busy for God.” Let’s not ignore the very One who gave everything for us.

May your life—especially during this sacred season—reflect your love and devotion to the One who loved you first.
