Daily devotion: When your trust is trampled.
When Trust is Broken – Trust God Still
Proverbs 3:5
“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.”
Devotional:
Trust is a word I now treat with great care. Recently, I suffered a blow to trust through a scam that hurt me in more ways than one. To be duped and conned leaves not only a terrible feeling, but also a deep anger toward those who trample the trust of innocent people.
After such an experience, the temptation is to close up entirely—trust no one! But that’s not the way God calls us to live. That response is actually part of the enemy’s plan. Satan, the spiritual mastermind behind the deception in this world, wants us to live in fear and suspicion—even toward God.
So, how are we as Christians to navigate such a deceitful world?
King Solomon gives us timeless, godly wisdom: “Trust in the LORD with all your heart…” Yes, even after trust has been shattered. God has not left us alone here. We have His Word and the power of the Holy Spirit—neither of whom will ever deceive us or let us down.
If you’re wounded in the area of trust, here are two steps you can take:
1. Go to the Lord. Seek His healing and His wisdom so that you may walk wisely and be guarded against falling into future traps.
2. Ask for discernment. Pray for a check in your spirit. If you feel uncertain or unsettled, stop immediately and seek God’s counsel. Scammers don’t like delays. They’ll pressure you to stay on their timeline. That’s your sign to step back.
God promises to help us escape the snares of the enemy:
1 Corinthians 10:13 (NLT)
“The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, He will show you a way out so that you can endure.”
If your trust has been broken—if your heart is bruised by betrayal—know this: you can still run to your Heavenly Father. Bring Him your wounds, your mistakes, and your regrets. Place all your trust in Him.
He will never fail you.
