Daily devotion – Opening a door for you each day to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Colossians 4:2–4
“Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving; meanwhile praying also for us, that God would open to us a door for the word, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in chains, that I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak.” — Colossians 4:2–4
The Apostle Paul didn’t ask for his prison doors to be opened. Instead, he pleaded for ministry doors to be opened.
What a challenge that is for us today.
As you begin each new day, I encourage you to pray and ask God to give you one person to whom you can share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Paul’s priority was never his comfort or freedom—but rather his faithfulness in proclaiming the good news of his Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Even when Paul prayed from a prison cell, his requests were not for safety, relief, or material needs. His prayers were focused on spiritual strength, clarity in sharing the Gospel, and the advancement of God’s Kingdom.
Similarly, consider the example of John Bunyan, the author of Pilgrim’s Progress. When he was arrested for preaching the Gospel and was told he could go free if he promised to stop preaching, his response was this:
“If I am out of prison today, I will preach the Gospel again tomorrow, by the grace and help of God.”
How could God open ministry doors for Paul while he was in chains?
He did—miraculously.
Paul was able to witness to the very guards assigned to him. And as a result, the Gospel spread into areas of Rome that would have been otherwise unreachable. Some believers were even found in Caesar’s own household:
“All the saints greet you, but especially those who are of Caesar’s household.” — Philippians 4:22
If your Christian walk feels dull or lacklustre, the problem is not with God. It may be that you’ve never experienced the joy, the thrill, and the wonder of sharing the Gospel with someone else.
Imagine waking up each morning with the excitement of discovery—wondering, “Lord, who will You lead me to today?” You’ve been given an incredible privilege: to speak the message of salvation to someone, with the power to change their eternal destiny—from Hell to Heaven.
So pray, and ask God to open a door for you. Then walk through it boldly.
