Daily devotion – He who has an ear….
Revelation 2:17
“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give some of the hidden manna to eat. And I will give him a white stone, and on the stone a new name written which no one knows except him who receives it.”
There is a special promise Jesus gives to the person who resists a compromised life!
What is the hidden manna?
When the Israelites wandered in the wilderness after leaving Egypt, God provided them with daily bread from heaven—manna. The psalmist even called it “the bread of angels.” It appeared fresh each morning, a reminder of God’s constant provision.
Manna was heaven’s food. And here in Revelation, Jesus promises hidden manna—bread from heaven again, but something even greater.
In John 6:30–40, Jesus declares that He Himself is “the bread of God… who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” He is the true manna!
So what is Jesus saying?
To the believer who overcomes and stays faithful, He offers Himself—His very life, presence, and satisfaction that the world can never provide. Christ alone nourishes our souls. He satisfies us in ways we could never imagine or conceive.
And what about the white stone?
In ancient courts, judges used two stones—one black, one white. After a trial, the judge would drop a stone into an urn: black for guilty, white for acquittal. So a white stone symbolized full pardon—freedom!
But there’s more: in Old Testament times, the High Priest wore a breastplate that included two special stones—the Urim and the Thummim. These were used to discern God’s will.
So Jesus promises the overcomer a white stone—full acquittal before God—and a new name written on it, one that only the recipient knows. It speaks of deep intimacy, personal identity, and the unshakable assurance of belonging to Christ.
Take heart today—
If you follow Christ faithfully, turning from compromise and walking in truth, Jesus promises to feed your soul with Himself and affirm you with a name known only between you and Him.
That is true treasure.
