Daily devotion – War!
The Battle Every Believer Faces
Ephesians 6:10–13
“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil… Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”
Somehow, in the ease of modern Christianity, we have forgotten what happens when a person receives Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour: a war begins. The moment someone is born again, they step into a spiritual battlefield that continues until the day Christ calls them home.
This battle is daily and relentless. That’s why Paul speaks so emphatically in Ephesians 6 about armor and weapons. The idea that one can casually stroll through the Christian life without conflict reveals either a deep naivety or a serious lack of biblical understanding. This war is real—and we are in it.
But here’s the truth: we are not alone, and we do not fight in our own strength. Paul calls us to “be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.” Our role is to put on the whole armor of God—and in the original Greek, the sense is that we are never to take it off!
Paul writes, “having done all, to stand.” That phrase speaks volumes. We are not passive observers in this war. We must take responsibility—doing all we can by submitting to God, walking in His Word, and obeying His commands.
James echoes this when he says, “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7)
Each day, we face a choice: to submit to God or to compromise. We must choose to stand firm—walking in fellowship, feeding on His Word, praying without ceasing, and living in obedience. Victory comes not by strength of will, but by daily surrender and dependence on our Lord.
We can choose to give up and drift—or we can choose to fight and stand, as a faithful soldier of Jesus Christ.
“Therefore take up the whole armor of God… and having done all, to stand.”
