Daily devotion – Where do you fit in all this?

Living in the Last Days

As we find ourselves living in the Last Days, we must consistently prioritise how we live. Relying solely on daily news headlines can seduce us in two dangerous ways: we may either spiral into panic or drift into indifference concerning the biblical signs unfolding around us.

Neither of these responses reflect the biblical posture we are called to adopt.

As believers, we are to live with great anticipation, not fear or apathy. When we observe the political chaos across the globe and the frantic rush by nations to rebuild military strength, we are reminded that the return of Christ for His Church—the rapture—is imminent.

At the centre of this global unrest is Israel, still engaged in war with Hamas and other terrorist factions, striving to rescue the hostages taken on October 7, 2023. Meanwhile, Australia’s own government has revealed an ungodly posture. Our Foreign Affairs Minister, Penny Wong, recently expressed support for Palestinian statehood—effectively empowering those aligned with terror, while diminishing support for the victims.

There is a troubling pattern: those who abuse the system are being upheld, while the true victims are cast aside.

Internationally, our Federal Government seems to have thrown Australia under the bus, distancing us from long-standing allies. Even the United States is now urging our leaders to reconsider the direction we’re heading. At the same time, Russia and China are seizing the opportunity to flex their military and political might—largely unchallenged.

When our Prime Minister was recently re-sworn into office, he refused to place his hand on the Bible, fearing it would offend people of other faiths. Yet, what about the Christians of this nation? Are we now to be silenced and overlooked?

Yes, the storm clouds are gathering. But our Lord Jesus warned us not to be shaken:

“And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.” — Matthew 24:6–8

The Church is still here—not to “play church,” but to represent Christ. We are His ambassadors, called to shine in a darkening world. Soon, the Church will vanish in an instant, and the chaos that follows will be unprecedented—making the horrors of WWI and WWII pale in comparison.

So what are we to do? Jesus makes it clear:

“All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” — Matthew 28:18–20

This is God’s will for His Church. This is God’s will for you and me—today.
