Daily devotion – Election

Pastor Keith   -

Ephesians 1:4 “Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.”

An old woman, on hearing of some preachers who dwelt on the doctrine of predestination said, “Ah, I have long settled that point, for if God had not chosen me before I was born. I am sure He would have seen nothing in me to have chosen me afterward.”

This is the marvellous doctrine of election, a doctrine that has confused some and confounded others. A seminary professor speaking on the subject said, “Try to explain election and you may lose your mind. But try to explain it away and you may lose your souls!”

Salvation belongs with God and not with man.

Jhn 15:16 “Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you..”

Note that God chose us even before He created the universe, so that our salvation is wholly on His grace and not on the basis of anything we ourselves have done. He chose us IN Christ, not IN ourselves.

And God chose us for a purpose: to be holy and without blame. In the Bible, election is always UNTO something. It is a privilege that carries a great responsibility.

This week mediate on this wonder of God’s grace and you will find that you will walk more obediently with and under Him.
