Daily devotion – Is somebody knocking?
A number of years ago, an English artist by the name of Holman Hunt painted a powerful image based on Revelation 3:20:
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.” — Revelation 3:20
Hunt’s painting depicts Jesus standing in a quiet garden, outside a cottage door at the end of a winding path. When the painting was completed, Hunt invited some fellow artists to view and critique it. One of them pointed out a curious omission:
“Holman, there’s something wrong with the door — it doesn’t have a doorknob on the outside.”
To which Hunt replied, “That was intentional. The door represents the human heart — it can only be opened from the inside.”
Holman Hunt understood a deep truth: Jesus will never force Himself into anyone’s life. He knocks gently and waits patiently. The choice to open the door is left entirely with the one inside.
Have you opened the door of your life to Jesus Christ? And if you have — does He have full access to every room? Or are there areas still locked away?
Let Him in — not just through the door, but into every corner of your heart.
