Daily devotion: Lets talk about Jesus!
1 John 1:7
But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
Have you ever noticed that when a group of teachers gathers, they talk about school? Or that people in the same profession often discuss work when they find out they share similar roles? It’s natural—shared experience tends to drive conversation.
And yet, when believers gather, our conversations—even though we are brothers and sisters in Christ—can often follow the same worldly patterns. During the brief moments of fellowship that a Sunday morning allows, we may touch on the weather or the week’s events, but little more.
What I’d like us to consider is a communication that runs deeper—fellowship that is truly spiritual and edifying. Let’s come together with the aim to talk about our Lord, His Word, His mercy, His grace, and the ways He is working in our lives and the lives of others.
We can guide our conversations in that direction simply by asking questions like:
“What book of the Bible are you reading right now?”
“Is there anything I can pray for you today?”
“What has God been teaching you this week?”
“Has a particular verse strengthened you recently?”
There’s a growing trend in churches today—people wanting to ‘get in and get out’ without needing to mix or engage with others. But I assure you, when we enter Heaven by God’s grace, our conversations will overflow with worship, joy, and the stories of His faithfulness. So why not begin now?
This week, prepare your heart as you come together with God’s people. Bring a verse that has blessed you, a word of praise, and a heart ready to encourage and pray for others. Let’s not be ‘Teflon’ believers—untouched and untouched by others—but rather vessels of God’s love, warmth, and concern.
Each of us can bring a word of hope, a moment of encouragement. And when we ourselves walk through trials, it’s then we will be most grateful for conversations that go deeper than the weather or the price of groceries.
The Apostle John reminds us in his letter that our love for one another is the evidence that we are truly walking in the light:
1 John 2:9-11
If anyone claims, “I am living in the light,” but hates a Christian brother or sister, that person is still living in darkness. Anyone who loves another brother or sister is living in the light and does not cause others to stumble. But anyone who hates another brother or sister is still living and walking in darkness. Such a person does not know the way to go, having been blinded by the darkness.
Let’s live and speak in the light. Turn your conversation toward the Lord—and you will be blessed, and so will those with whom you share.
