Daily devotion: Pastor John Macarthur home!
“Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of your master.”
— Matthew 25:21
Yesterday, Pastor John MacArthur went to be with his Lord. Pastor John was a faithful servant of Christ and a blessed teacher of God’s Word. I have many of his commentaries, and I wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone who wants to seriously study the Scriptures.
John Fullerton MacArthur Jr. was an American pastor, Christian theologian, author, and founder of Grace to You, a nationally syndicated radio and television Bible teaching ministry. He faithfully pastored Grace Community Church, a non-denominational church in Sun Valley, California, from 1969 to 2025.
Today, we lift up in prayer the fellowship of Grace Community Church as they grieve the loss of their beloved shepherd. Pastor John once spoke of death with a beautiful truth that reveals his hope:
“All death can do to the believer is deliver him to Jesus.” — John MacArthur
We have witnessed the homegoing of Billy Graham, Pastor Chuck Smith, and now Pastor John MacArthur. Each of these men boldly and consistently proclaimed the blessed hope of the Church—the coming rapture that will one day take us home to be with Jesus.
Every time I see one of these faithful men finish their earthly race, my heart is stirred afresh to watch, wait, and look up with anticipation for that glorious moment when we shall all be called home:
“For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ shall rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so shall we ever be with the Lord.”
— 1 Thessalonians 4:16–17
