Daily devotional: A parents prayer!
A Mother’s Prayer
C.H. Spurgeon once wrote,
“I cannot tell you how much I owe to the custom of on Sunday evenings while we were yet children for mother to stay at home with us, and then we sat around the table and read verses after verse and she explained the Scriptures to us. After that was done there came a time of pleading and the question was asked how long it would be before we would think about our state; how long before we would seek the Lord. Then came mother’s prayer; and some of the words of our mother’s prayer, we shall never forget even when our hair is gray.”
What a beautiful and eternal legacy—a parent who leads their children in the Word, who pleads with them to consider their soul, and who lifts them up in heartfelt prayer. Spurgeon’s testimony reminds us that the influence of a godly parent, especially in the quiet moments at home, is never wasted.
A parent’s prayer never ends—not until either the last breath is taken or their son or daughter bows their heart to Jesus as Lord and Saviour. And even then, those prayers echo through generations.
Never underestimate the power of your quiet witness, your open Bible, and your faithful intercession.
“The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” – James 5:16b
