What Does the Holy Spirit Do?
“When He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth… He will glorify Me.” – John 16:13–14
What does the Holy Spirit actually do?
According to Jesus, the Spirit’s number one mission is to glorify Christ. And He does this by working deeply in the lives of believers.
The Spirit’s work begins at salvation. He convicts us of sin, draws us to Jesus, and causes us to be born again—regenerated. He takes people who were spiritually dead and gives them new life. From that moment on, the Spirit indwells us, sealing us as God’s own and empowering us to live in obedience.
But the Spirit doesn’t stop at salvation. He fills us daily—not by adding more of Himself, but by taking more control of us. His fullness is about surrender, not emotion. He shapes our thoughts, attitudes, and actions to reflect Jesus.
He also sanctifies us, producing spiritual fruit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, and more. He equips us for ministry and service. Without Him, no true spiritual growth or impact is possible.
One of the most powerful aspects of the Spirit’s work is in relation to Scripture. The Spirit inspired the writing of the Word, and now He illuminates it for us. As we read the Bible, the Spirit reveals its meaning, applies it to our hearts, and transforms us into Christ’s likeness.
Isn’t that amazing? God’s Spirit is at work in your life every time you open the Scriptures, every time you yield in prayer, every time you take a step of obedience.
So again, the question is: Are you open to the Spirit’s work in you?
Let Him guide you into all truth. Let Him glorify Christ through your words, your witness, and your worship.
