Daily devotion – The Last Days are filled with fear!

Fear in the Last Days

There isn’t a definitive number of phobias, but over 500 named fears are listed on the Phobia List website. Many are rare, but some are all too common—social phobias, agoraphobia, and fears of heights, flying, enclosed spaces, insects, snakes, dogs, storms, and needles.

In these Last Days, fear seems to be gripping many hearts. But there’s one fear noticeably absent: the fear of God.

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the Holy is understanding.” – Proverbs 9:10

Throughout the Gospels, Jesus continually tells His disciples, “Do not fear!” And centuries before, the prophet Isaiah declared the same message—especially in Isaiah chapter 40, where he paints a breathtaking portrait of God’s power, majesty, and might.

So why should God’s people not be afraid?

1. Because God is with us—no matter the circumstance.
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego knew this firsthand. They stood firm and refused to bow to Nebuchadnezzar’s idol, and God was with them in the fire (Daniel 3).

2. Because God strengthens us and helps us.

“Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”
—Isaiah 41:10

3. Because God holds us as He helps us.

“For I, the LORD your God, will hold your right hand,
Saying to you, ‘Fear not, I will help you.’”
—Isaiah 41:13
“Fear not, you worm Jacob, You men of Israel! I will help you,” says the LORD,
And your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.”
—Isaiah 41:14

He will not forsake us—He made us, He redeemed us, and we belong to Him.

4. Because we are His—formed, called, and loved.

“Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by your name;
You are Mine.”
—Isaiah 43:1
“Fear not, for I am with you;
I will bring your descendants from the east,
And gather you from the west.”
—Isaiah 43:5

5. Because He knew us before we were born and has a purpose for us.

“Thus says the LORD who made you
And formed you from the womb, who will help you:
‘Fear not, O Jacob My servant;
And you, Jeshurun, whom I have chosen.’”
—Isaiah 44:2

So how can we today live in fear, when God’s Word gives us such assurance?

He is the Rock of our salvation!

“Do not fear, nor be afraid;
Have I not told you from that time, and declared it?
You are My witnesses.
Is there a God besides Me?
Indeed there is no other Rock; I know not one.”
—Isaiah 44:8

Let the fear of the Lord drive out all other fear.
When you fear Him rightly, you will walk in peace, courage, and unwavering trust.
