Daily devotional – Disappointment
Psalm 23:1 “The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.”
Disappointment is something every one of us will face at different times in life. Age, status, or financial security cannot shield us from it—disappointment comes to us all. As a husband, father, and now grandfather, I can look back and recall times when I have caused disappointment to those I love.
To disappoint means to fail to meet the expectations or hopes of someone, to let them down, to frustrate a plan, or to prevent something hoped for from being fulfilled. When we realise we have been the cause of such a moment for someone dear to us, it can be deeply painful.
In our walk with God, we stumble and fall. Yet here lies the wonder of our Lord—He never disappoints. His timing may seem late by our measure, and His answers may appear delayed. But as time passes and we look back, we see that His timing was not just good—it was perfect. His delays are never without reason; they are always crucial to His greater plan.
This is why we can pray with full confidence: He will never let us down. Even in the disciples’ darkest hour, when they watched their Master arrested, beaten, and crucified, Jesus was fulfilling the greatest work of all—securing their salvation and forgiveness.
So when you face a crisis or uncertainty this week, be at peace. The Good Shepherd will bring to pass what is truly needed in your life.
The first verses I ever committed to memory as a young believer still anchor my trust in Him today:
“For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven,
And do not return there,
But water the earth,
And make it bring forth and bud,
That it may give seed to the sower
And bread to the eater,
So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth;
It shall not return to Me void,
But it shall accomplish what I please,
And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.”
(Isaiah 55:10–11)
Our Good Shepherd gave His life for us so that we would never be disappointed when we come to Him in our hour of need.
