What’s on this week
Calvary Women – This Tuesday, 9:30am at the chapel, join us for Bible study and prayer in Galatians 6:1-5, “The Attitude of the Spirit” with Helen. Creche is provided for your little ones—don’t miss it and invite a friend! At Calvary, we value what Paul wrote to Titus: “But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine… the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things— that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed.” (Titus 2:1, 3–5) We encourage every lady to take advantage of this rich time in God’s Word. Youth Hoodies – Our newly designed Calvary Chapel Secret Harbour Youth hoodies are available for $40. See Noah Carmody before they’re gone! Our Focus at CCSH – We centre everything on the teaching of God’s Word. We encourage you and your family to be part of each service: Sunday AM & PM- Wednesday PM. Currently, we’re studying Revelation and 2 Corinthians, and in the Women’s Bible Study, Galatians.“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.(Romans 10:17) A person of great faith is one who continually feasts on God’s Word. Prayer – If you need prayer, our pastors and elders are available after each service to pray with you.
Helen’s Heart
Much has been spent in ‘talking it out’ to psychologists and psychiatrists. While it may be true ‘a problem shared is a problem halved’, beware to whom you tell. The disciples knew who to tell when their hearts were troubled. The disciples of John the Baptist felt the tragic blow when John was beheaded, and they turned to Jesus as one who understood their hearts of sorrow. We can learn from their example and go to the intercessor of our faith. We can take our problems to Jesus and have no regrets in placing our confidence in Him. As Peter said, Lord to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life – John 6:68 Take your burdens to Him and trust Him this week because He loves and cares for you.
Grace Giving
2Co 9:7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. We encourage all of you who are part of our Calvary Chapel Secret Harbour Fellowship family to give without obligation but with a cheerful heart of worship. Your gifts allow God’s work to be done in “Judea, Samaria and the uttermost parts of the world.” Account name – Calvary Chapel Church Secret Harbour Incorporated – Account – 10891970 – BSB – 066-516.
From the Pastor’s Pen
1Co 9:25 And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown.
Phl 3:14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ. Every believer is in a race for the prize. Paul pressed on—not for what he wanted, but for what Jesus wanted. His whole effort was directed toward doing God’s will. When Paul said, “that I may lay hold,” he used strong language. Paul began with the truth that Jesus Christ had laid hold of him. This is crucial—but some Christians misapply it. They assume, “Jesus got hold of me, so that’s it. I’m saved, I’m going to heaven.” Paul showed a different spirit. He was determined to take hold of that very purpose for which Christ had taken hold of him. So we should ask: Why did Jesus lay hold of Paul? Jesus laid hold of Paul to make him a new man (Romans 6:4). Paul sought to see that converting work of Jesus fully completed in his life. The same applies to us: there are no spectators in the body of Christ—just as no part of the human body sits idle. This week, examine your walk with God. Have you grown, and are you still growing, in your relationship with Him? You are either moving forward or slipping backward—there is no neutral ground, no cruising along. Step up. Make the necessary changes needed in your time, resources, finances, and serving to the Lord—until you are living fully for Christ. This is what it means to deny yourself, take up your cross, and follow Jesus.
