Daily devotion – A choice to be made!
1Jo 2:17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.
This verse says simply, the things of the world don’t last, they will all pass away!
How said it is to watch individuals and families waste their lives pursuing things that won’t last. John Owens called this, “ Living affections to dying things.”
The Bible tells us there is no future in worldliness.None. This world is temporary and superficial and it does not satisfy the ache of our hearts. It shines and it glitters and promises to appease but it cannot.King Solomon had tried everything this world could offer – absolutely everything, and he left no stone unturned. His summary of all this worldly activity, Ecc 1:14 I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and indeed, all is vanity and grasping for the wind.
Ecc 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments,
For this is man’s all. Ecc 12:14 For God will bring every work into judgment, Including every secret thing, Whether good or evil.
The things of this world – when compared to pleasing God and eternal life, when informed by an eternal perspective – will be exposed as being worthless.
But there is a future in godliness, and for all who do the will of God. They, by contrast, will live forever.
How about you? Which will you choose?
Will you surrender to the lure of the world and its temporary pleasures, or will you do the will of God, which contains the promise of eternal life?
