Daily devotion – God’s delays!
Since a thousand years are as one day to the Lord, we cannot accuse Him of delaying in regard to His coming again. In God’s sight, the entire universe is only a few days old, and He is not restricted by time the way we are.
God could have created the universe in an instant, but instead He chose to do it over six days. He could have delivered Israel from Egypt in a moment, but instead He spent 80 years preparing the man who would lead the Exodus—Moses.
Our Saviour Jesus could have come to this world at any point in history, but He waited until “the fulness of time was come” (Galatians 4:4).
God is not limited by time!
So why has the Lord delayed His return and the coming Day of the Lord? It is not because He is unable to act, unwilling to come, or behind schedule. God delays the coming of Christ and His powerful judgment because He is long-suffering. He desires to give lost sinners every opportunity to be saved.
As Peter reminds us:
“Consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation” (2 Peter 3:15).
God’s delay is not neglect, but purpose. It is an indication that He has a plan for this world—and He is working that plan out perfectly.
We are part of that plan. We are here to witness and proclaim the Gospel to as many as will hear. We are here to pray for the fulfilment of God’s purposes and to be His channels to see His will done on earth as it is in Heaven.
But make no mistake—Jesus is coming back. And His return is closer now than ever before!
