Daily devotion – Our Heavenly Father!
Matthew 18:2–4
Jesus called a little child to him and put the child among them. Then he said, “I tell you the truth, unless you turn from your sins and become like little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven. So anyone who becomes as humble as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.”
I love this passage where Jesus gathered the little children around Him and placed one of them on His knee. On Sunday morning I shared about the desire God has planted in each of us to be close to Him—to seek His attention, the desire to be held by our Lord and Saviour.
This longing makes me yearn for Heaven, but it also drives me today to serve the Lord with all my heart. Like a child who longs to please their father or mother, I want to please Him in everything I do and say. I long to hear those words from Matthew 25:21: “Well done, good and faithful servant.” But deep in my heart, I look forward to hearing them this way: “Well done, good and faithful child.”
I still remember every Friday morning in our primary school assembly we would pray the Lord’s Prayer. The prayer Jesus taught us—“Our Father who is in Heaven, hallowed be Thy Name”—brought me tremendous security as a child and a never ending trust in Him. Even today, those words remind me that I am loved by my Heavenly Father.
My prayer for you this week is that you know this same truth—that you are loved by your Father in Heaven. The story of Jesus gathering the children is not just about them—it is about you and me. I will never be embarrassed to be called His child, a child of God.
