Daily devotion- Persecution in school and Charlie Kirk.
I have spoken several times in my blogs about Charlie Kirk and his impact upon Christians worldwide. Yet, after a recent conversation with one of our young grandchildren, I feel compelled to raise his name once more.
Two days ago, our grandchild was asked at school whether she supported Charlie Kirk’s views and if she was saddened by his murder. She answered “yes” to both. The response from classmates who once called themselves her friends was abrupt: “We are no longer your friends because of your affinity with Charlie Kirk.”
Hearing this deeply disheartened me—not only for my grandchild but also for the reality of how easily the influence of parents and left-leaning media shapes the opinions of even young schoolchildren. It reveals the tragic state of our times, when speaking ill of a 31-year-old father and husband who was murdered simply for his faith in God has somehow become acceptable.
I reminded my grandchild that these so-called “friends” were not true friends at all. Yet I was also struck by the cost of her stand. Even at her young age, she chose to affirm truth and faith in Christ—knowing it would mean rejection. Jesus warned us of this very reality:
“And everyone will hate you because you are my followers. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.”
—Mark 13:13
We are living in days when true believers will shine like lights in a sin-darkened world. The salt of genuine faith in Christ will sting and offend a world descending deeper into depravity.
Yes, following Jesus will mean being mocked, mistreated, and persecuted. But this has always been the case since Christ came and revealed righteousness to a world that loves sin. The question is: will we endure to the end, standing firm for the One who endured all for us?
But little did I know when sharing this story with one of our own children only to find out that another two of our grandchildren have undergone the same persecution in their school because they dare to speak out their faith in Christ and not be ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus.
Things are changing rapidly in our nation and each day we grow ever closer to our Lord’s return!
Rom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes—the Jew first and also the Gentile
